Changes Regarding Counselling and Patient and Family Support Services

In response to the COVID-19 situation in Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba has made changes to some of our counselling and patient and family support services.

Please know that this is only temporary. Right now we are taking extra steps to protect cancer patients, their families, and staff.

Cancer patients or their families who are in need of counselling support can still receive services. Call 204-787-2109 or toll-free at 1-866-561-1026.

Telephone appointments are being offered instead of in-person appointments.

Any clients whose appointments have been changed will be contacted directly.

Some of our information and support services are on hold at this time.

Specific changes can be found here.

For any urgent situation, cancer patients and their families are asked to call Patient and Family Support Services.
Phone 204-787-2109 or toll-free at 1-866- 561-1026.

Peer Support

There is nothing quite like talking with someone else who has "been there.” Whether face-to-face or over the phone, you can connect with someone who has had the same or similar diagnosis and life circumstances.

Canadian Cancer Society offers an online peer support community, a safe place to connect, learn and share with others living with cancer.
For more resources from CCS, please call 1-888-939-3333 or visit:

You can also contact the Breast & Gyne Cancer Centre of Hope Peer Support Program at 204-787-2970 or toll-free 1-866-561-1026.

Psychosocial Oncology - Counselling

Psychosocial Oncology, which is part of Patient and Family Support Services, is made up of social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals.
Our services are offered at no cost and are part of the care provided to you and your loved ones at CancerCare Manitoba.
Staff is trained to help you and your family cope with the emotional, psychological, social and spiritual stresses that often arise as a result of cancer and its treatment.

We provide individual, couple and family counselling, as well as facilitate a number of different support groups and programs mentioned above.
We are also researchers, volunteer trainers, and educators on the psychosocial impact of cancer.

In Winnipeg, the staff is located at the McDermot and St. Boniface sites.
To make an appointment, please call: 204-787-2109 or toll-free 1-866-561-1026

If you live outside of Winnipeg, you can access support closer to home.
We can help you locate local resources and/or provide services by telephone or teleoncology, which is video conferencing.
