How we look can have an impact on how we feel. One of the side effects of cancer treatments may be hair loss and other appearance-related changes. CancerCare Manitoba’s Guardian Angel Caring Room is a place where you can receive help with this from compassionate, knowledgeable staff and volunteers.

The Caring Room offers a wig service, head coverings and laryngectomy stoma covers at no cost.
Patients experiencing hair loss can borrow wigs and other head coverings. All wigs are cleaned and sanitized before being loaned out. Patients are asked to return the items when they are no longer needed.

This program provides hands-on workshops for skin care, makeup and head-covering techniques.
Promoted by CancerCare Manitoba, this initiative of the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation (CCTFA) is a national program to help women with cancer learn techniques to manage the appearance-related side effects of their treatment.
CCMB provides space for the monthly workshops, which are run by teams of volunteer cosmetologists and wig specialists. Participants meet in small groups and receive free makeup kits donated by the CCTFA Foundation.
Workshops are held monthly at four sites:
675 McDermot, Winnipeg
300 Booth Street, Winnipeg
|Victoria General Hospital
2340 Pembina Hwy, Winnipeg
|Brandon Regional Health Authority
300 McTavish Ave East, Brandon
There is no charge for the workshops, but you must register on-line before you can attend a session.

Hair donations across Canada are processed through the Canadian Cancer Society. Through its partnership with Proctor & Gamble Canada and the launch of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign, wigs have been created, donated and distributed to women all across Canada. On average, it takes seven donations to make one wig.
If you’re interested in donating your hair, please visit the Canadian Cancer Society for more information or call them at 204-789-0886.
