Under the direction of the Director of Quality, Patient Safety, Policies and Guidelines, the Infection Control Practitioner performs tasks related to infection prevention and control at CancerCare Manitoba.  Key roles include working with other CCMB Infection Control team members to lead the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of infection prevention and control policies and procedures for CancerCare Manitoba, along with collaborating with the infection control services of organizations with which CancerCare Manitoba is co-located. The Infection Control Practitioner is accountable for the development and performance of nosocomial infection surveillance for CancerCare Manitoba which includes data analysis, information dissemination, investigation and control of potential or developing outbreaks at CancerCare Manitoba. The Infection Control Practitioner ensures timely execution of recommended infection prevention and control measures where appropriate. This position communicates and collaborates regarding infection prevention and control issues across the continuum of care, participates in relevant audits, and leads the development, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of infection prevention and control education in collaboration with key stakeholders, is responsible for ongoing surveillance of institutional construction regarding infection risk and will include other related duties as assigned.



  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Current registration with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Completion of an approved Infection Prevention and Control Course or willingness to complete within one (1) year of date of hire
  • A minimum of three (3) years clinical nursing experience in a healthcare setting
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office

Will Be Assessed During the Interview Process:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control competencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of microbiology, infectious disease, epidemiology and biostatistics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of quality improvement, program development, & adult education
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a self-directed, independent manner with limited supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, interpret and respond appropriately to multiple concurrent activities
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and critically review literature


  • Certification in Infection Control from Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Incorporated
  • Recent experience in Infection Prevention and Control


  • Postgraduate training in a relevant area, including epidemiology, biostatistics and/or microbiology
  • Experience with program planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation
  • Previous experience in education and/or clinical research

Salary: As per MNU Collective Agreement
