OUTPATIENT CANCER SERVICES TO BE CONSOLIDATED AT CANCERCARE MANITOBA SITES IN WINNIPEG

Shift in clinical services follows independent review, will ensure ongoing high-quality multidisciplinary cancer care for Manitoba patients

Outpatient cancer patients currently accessing services at CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) sites at Concordia Hospital and Seven Oaks General Hospital are being notified of an upcoming shift in where they will access care, CancerCare Manitoba announced today.

“As part of CCMB’s continued commitment to providing high-quality care, an independent review of cancer services has highlighted the benefits to access and quality of care that would come from clinical consolidation across four Winnipeg sites," said Dr. Sri Navaratnam, President and CEO of CancerCare Manitoba. "We are confident these changes will allow for enhanced high-quality cancer services to be delivered safely and effectively at these sites, particularly as Manitoba’s population ages and changes.”

Through this consolidation of six sites to four, targeting for December 2020, CCMB will provide outpatient services at 675 McDermot Avenue (CCMB’s provincial hub) and the CCMB sites at St. Boniface, Victoria and Grace Hospitals. CCMB will be reaching out to affected patients to ensure a smooth transition to their new preferred CCMB site. Letters with detailed information related to the change will be sent to affected patients over the next few weeks.

Staff at the affected CCMB sites have been informed of the upcoming changes and CCMB is working with the involved unions through the transition. There is no reduction in staffing associated with this transition.

CCMB clinic staff and the Patient Representative will be available to guide patients and discuss the changes. Patients can contact the Patient Representative at 204-787-2065 to answer any questions that they may have.

The transition will be closely monitored to ensure ongoing high-quality care and positive patient experiences.
