Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov - the 2008 recipient of the Dr. O. Harold Warwick Prize November 6, 2008 On Monday November 3, 2008, a reception and presentation was held at CancerCare Manitoba in which Dr. Harvey Chochinov was awarded the "Dr. O. Harold Warwick Prize" for 2008.
Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov is an international leader, role model and scholar in the field of palliative care research. He is recognized as a pioneer in the psychosocial, existential and spiritual dimensions of palliative, end-of-life cancer care. His publications pertaining to depression, distress and matters of dignity in the terminally ill are considered seminal within the palliative care literature. Dr. Chochinov is a Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Manitoba and director of the Manitoba Palliative Care Research Unit at CancerCare Manitoba. The only Canada Research Chair in Palliative Care, his studies addressing psychosocial dimensions of palliation have helped define core-competencies and standards of end-oflife care worldwide. Given to a scientist whose research has had a major impact on cancer control in Canada, the O. Harold Warwick Prize is named after Dr. Warwick, a pioneering researcher in cancer control and treatment. For more information, contact:
