Screening detects cancer early by testing people who do not show any symptoms of the disease.
Colorectal cancer can be treated successfully at an early stage.
Most people aged 50 & older should complete a Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT).
Some people may be at increased risk of developing colorectal cancer, or have other factors which may require a different test such as colonoscopy.
Take the Test
Program manager Jean Sander talks about the importance of taking the time to participate in colorectal screening.
What is a fecal occult blood test (FOBT)?
A FOBT tests for blood in your stool. A sample of your stool is placed on a test card and sent to the lab, where it is checked for blood. Blood may be a sign of polyps or colorectal cancer. The FOBT can be done at home. Completing this test and any follow-up test may find polyps or colorectal cancer in its early stages when treatment is most effective.
How can I get an FOBT?
Call ColonCheck Manitoba at 788-8635 or toll free at 1-866-744-8961 to request a test. We will ask you a few questions to see if it is time to get screened.
You can also ask your Doctor or Nurse Practitioner about colorectal cancer screening.
