We're turning seven !

March is colon cancer awareness month and ColonCheck is proudly celebrating seven years of service to Manitobans.

Since launching in 2007, ColonCheck has continued to expand its reach and now all eligible Manitobans can have the home screening test mailed directly to them. ColonCheck also provides home screening tests to primary health care providers. Regional Health Authorities are also working with ColonCheck to promote the home screening test and offer follow-up testing if necessary.

Colon cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Manitoba and is the second leading cause of cancer death. However when found in the earliest stage, there is over a 90% chance of survival.

ColonCheck provides the home screening test. It is also called the Fecal Occult Blood Test or FOBT. Done in the privacy of your own bathroom, the test can detect hidden blood in the stool (or poop). Blood in the stool may be a sign of colon cancer or precancerous growths. It is important to use the home screening test to detect blood because colon cancer often has no symptoms in the earliest stage.

If you are between 50 and 74, get checked!
