Cancer of the cervix is largely preventable. A first step in preventing cancer of the cervix is a woman having regular Pap tests. A Pap test is a test that may find changes in the cervix even before the changes become cancerous. Monitoring or treating these early changes can prevent most cancers of the cervix.
Unfortunately, many women do not have regular Pap tests, which places them at a greater risk for developing cervical cancer. This program provides relevant information for Manitoba women by:
- Explaining what a Pap test is,
- Describing and demonstrating how a Pap test is done,
- Describing the risks for developing cancer of the cervix,
- Outlining who should have Pap tests,
- Describing how often women should have Pap tests, and
- Addressing and offering strategies for overcoming emotions and barriers that may prevent women from having Pap tests.
Running Time: 15:30 minutes
