The goal of the Manitoba Cervical Cancer Screening Program is to reduce the incidence of and mortality from invasive cervical cancer.

The program objectives are to:

  • Increase Pap test utilization province-wide.
  • Develop and maintain a population-based information system and registry.
  • Facilitate and support quality assurance activities for cervical cancer screening services.
  • Facilitate and support a common laboratory network.
  • Establish monitoring and evaluation methodology.

In this section, you will find "Pap Smears - A Resource Guide for Manitoba Health Professionals".

This guide is a compilation of information for all health professionals who are doing Pap tests. It includes guidelines for taking quality Pap tests, cytology reporting terminology, management of an abnormal cervico-vaginal result and other valuable information.

You will also find 2 new resources - both laminated reference cards that can help you in your practice. The Management Guidelines card is a summary of screening and management guidelines. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Clinician Fact Sheet includes information on the risk of infection, transmission, vaccine and key messages for patient education.
