*Notice of Program Change
October, 2005 Notice of Change (of MBSP program) announcement, thumbnail
As of October 10, 2005 we have added 8000 mammogram appointments and will no longer offer the clinical breast exam (CBE) as part of the Manitoba Breast Screening Program (MBSP). Read about why we are making this change

The goals of the Manitoba Breast Screening program are to:

  • To reduce mortality from breast cancer
  • To provide a service that is responsive to women
  • To screen 70% of the population of Manitoba women 50 to 69 years of age
  • To provide organized follow-up of results

The fact sheets in this section of our Web site provide an overview of the Manitoba Breast Screening Program, a summary of our latest program results and a screening research reference list.

Our program also produces an annual report of results.  download the biennial report.

All provinces in Canada have breast screening programs. Health Canada collects data from all provincial programs, evaluates and compiles reports such as:

  • Organized Breast Cancer Screening Programs in Canada - Report on Program Performance in 2003 and 2004
  • Report from the Evaluation Indicators Working Group: Guidelines for Monitoring Breast Screening Program Performance

The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health has recommendations on Breast Self Exam available on their website that you can download in .pdf format.
