Medical Devices

Medical Devices is an ISO registered department within the Division of Medical Physics made up of 6 Manitoba dept of labour Journeyman Machinist/Tool&Die Makers. The department strives to provide the highest standard of service to our clients. This goal is achieved by a commitment to technical excellence and innovation and by fostering an environment in which trust and integrity, individuals' contributions are valued, and intra and inter-departmental teamwork is encouraged.

We are a custom design and manufacturing department specializing in the manufacture of custom clinical and physics testing equipment not commercially available, providing comprehensive service in repair, equipment modification, mechanical design and prototyping of equipment for treatment, quality assurance and research. While our primary responsibility is to the departments of Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine and Division of Medical Physics , we offer our design and manufacturing expertise to outside clients. Product development is supported by CAD/CAM and 3D software and manufactured in a fully equipped modern machine shop with CNC (computer numerically controlled) machining capabilities. The workshop is also capable of handling light fabrication and welding projects.

Nuclear Electronics

The Nuclear Electronics Department provides comprehensive service for major equipment in support of the Radiotherapy program at CancerCare Manitoba and the Radiology program in Manitoba. We provide electronic service support for the Mammography, Chemotherapy, and Bio-Medical requirements of CancerCare Manitoba.

In collaboration with Clients, Manitoba Health and WRHA, we provide a competitive and professional electronic service in lieu of factory service contracts. The Nuclear Electronics service utilizes factory trained technologists to maintain and repair major equipment, such as linear accelerators and gamma camera systems within the Manitoba health care system.

Radiotherapy program:
  • Linear accelerator comprehensive maintenance and repairs.
  • Conventional and CT simulator maintenance and repairs.
  • Record and Verify systems.
  • Cobalt treatment units.
  • Brachytherapy treatment and diagnostic equipment.

Chemotherapy program:
  • Chemotherapy Infusion pumps.
  • Patient monitors.

Breast screening:
  • Mobile and stationary breast screening systems maintenance and repairs.

In order to provide full service to expensive and complex radiation treatment equipment, Nuclear Electronic staff must attend extensive factory training and be Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission licensed.
