Cancer Registry
The Manitoba Cancer Registry is one of the longest-standing tumour registries in the world dating back to 1930. The registry became population-based in 1956, which means that it was given a legal mandate to collect, classify and maintain accurate health information on all cancer cases in the Province of Manitoba. It is a data system designed for collection, management and analysis of data on persons diagnosed with cancer. Cancer registrars who are trained and certified health information professionals, abstract cancer related data from various sources and encodes the details using the International Classification for Diseases, the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, the Canadian Classification of Health Interventions (CCI), and the American Joint Committee on Cancer Cancer Staging Manual.
