Senior Research Nurse - Nurse III (REVISED)

Reporting to the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) Manager, the Senior Research Nurse is responsible for supervising the Research Nurses at both units (MacCharles and St. Boniface) of the CTU. Duties include providing leadership, support, and guidance to the Research Nurses and evaluating new clinical trial protocols for feasibility and impact on nursing resources. The Senior Research Nurse is also responsible for providing nursing education specific to clinical trials and assisting with the preparation of study-specific treatment orders. The Senior Research Nurse evaluates patient eligibility, organizing protocol specific treatment programs and monitoring ongoing progress for CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) patients with cancer and benign haematological disorders who are enrolled in a clinical research study, both in ambulatory and inpatient settings. The Senior Research Nurse participates in patient/family education, conducts pertinent nursing assessments, collaborates with the multidisciplinary care teams, and provides appropriate interventions as per the study-specific protocols, while maintaining standards of excellence in clinical trials management. The Senior Research Nurse participates in relevant Disease Site Group Meetings and promotes a culture of research within CCMB. Flexibility to move between both sites and some overtime may be required.



  • Current registration with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or willing to obtain
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Oncology
  • Experience with cancer treatment modalities
  • Strong critical problem solving, decision making, and quick intervention skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Attention to accuracy and detail
  • Strong understanding of patient-centered care
  • Must hold a satisfactory employment record

  • Clinical research experience with the adult population
  • Experience with a variety of cancer sites (2 or more)
  • Previous supervisory/team leader experience
  • Certified in Oncology Nursing Canada, CON(C)

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Ambulatory oncology clinic experience
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Salary: As per MNU Collective Agreement
